3 YEG stay-cations at 3 price points

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend or you want to be like a tourist for a couple of days, Alberta’s capital city has you covered. Here are three ways you can enjoy the city with three different budgets.

1. Camping trip close to home $

Did you know that Edmonton has a campsite right in the middle of the city? The Rainbow Valley campground is located just off Whitemud Drive and 119 St. beside the Snow Valley Ski Club.

The campsite is located right on Whitemud creek with beautiful walking trails all around. If you love the outdoors, pitch a tent, go for a hike and enjoy roasting marshmallows by the fire.

Because of Edmonton’s deep river valley, you’ll forget you’re in the middle of a large bustling city 10 minutes into your hike when you look around and see nothing but trees, a creek, and the gravel beneath your feet.

Campsite rates are as low as $37 per night.

2. Downtown adventure $$

Edmonton’s downtown is full of life whether you’re walking Jasper Ave. looking for a place to eat, wandering City Centre Mall or checking out one of the many bars or event spaces in the heart of Edmonton’s downtown.

Many hotels in downtown Edmonton have rates for less than $150 per night. If you would like a boutique-hotel feel right in the heart of the city, Union Bank Inn has classy rooms with the hotel’s own restaurant on the main floor. Rates at the Union Bank Inn can be less than $170 per night.

Take this opportunity to explore Jasper Ave. and all that Edmonton’s downtown has to offer. Check out the City Hall or Alberta Legislature grounds during the day and check out events at the Shaw Conference Centre and other surrounding venues.

Edmonton’s downtown is right beside the river valley, so take the opportunity to go for a relaxing stroll through the trails and parks that run right through the heart of the city.

3. West Edmonton getaway $$$

People come from all over the world to see West Edmonton Mall. If you’ve got some extra cash on hand, go ahead and splurge on on a themed room at the Fantasyland Hotel and shop your heart away in North America’s largest shopping mall.

With restaurants, a waterpark, movie theatre and amusement park, you’ll never have to leave the mall. You can also take in the sea lion show or try a couple rounds of mini golf.
