With the leaves changing colours and the temperatures dropping you can tell Halloween is on the horizon. While trick or treating may be the most popular thing to do on Halloween night there are many other spooky events on and in the leadup to the 31.
Haunted Show Home
Dates: Oct. 31
Location: 1218 Cy Becker Road
Price: Free
What to expect: Sterling Homes are transforming one of their show homes into a haunted house. From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. you can walk through the fully transformed home. There’ll be animatronics, fog, strobes and even live animations. Actors will be on-site and ready to scare you as you walk through. There will also be a portion of the night from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with no actor present for people who want to bring kids or maybe too scared themselves.
DARK
Dates: Oct. 10 to Nov. 1
Location: Fort Edmonton Park
Price: $40 online
What to expect: Fort Edmonton Park has been transformed into a haunted Halloween attraction deep in Edmonton’s river valley with three haunted houses, scare zones, a licenced food and beverage lounge and a premium haunted house for an extra $15.
Dead Centre of Town
Dates: Oct. 13 to 29
Location: Fort Edmonton Park
Price: $35
What to expect: Didn’t I just cover this? Well actually, no. Dead Centre of Town is separate from Dark. It’s a live-action immersive theatre experience inspired by Edmonton’s history. This isn’t an average theatre production, it’s rated 14A because of its gory scenes.
Deadmonton Haunted House
Dates: Sept. 27 to Nov. 3
Location: 7031 Gateway Blvd.
Price: $28
What to expect: Deadmonton is Edmonton’s most popular Halloween attraction. This is Deadmonton’s second year at its new location. The theme this year is a new dark age, People are quarantined in an attempt to ensure a fatal virus isn’t spread. For $45 you can get a speed pass that lets you skip the traditional long lines.
Boo at the Zoo
Dates: Oct.27
Location: Edmonton Valley Zoo
Price: Regular Zoo admission
What to expect: This event is for people who want a little less scare with their Halloween event. You can come dressed to costume to this family-friendly event with hands-on science, an extinct animal graveyard and magic shows. All of that’s on top of the animals and other normal things you can see at the zoo.
