The Edmonton EXPO Centre and the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts are working together to share art.
The new Art Pavilion is showcasing a total of 18 pieces from artists at the Nina. It features art that spans walls, touches the ceiling and framed art of various sizes.
“We had two of the feature artists come and see their work,” said Caiti Farquharson from the Edmonton EXPO Centre. “And they were really blown away! It was so heartwarming to see how amazed they were to see their art on the big surface. It’s really special to be a part of that.”
The Nina is a workspace and gallery for local artists with developmental disabilities who face barriers to producing their art. Located on 118 Ave they are just down the street from the Edmonton EXPO Centre. This partnership between neighbours is a new showcase opportunity for Nina artists.
“We really wanted to bring community art into the EXPO centre and brighten it up,” said Farquharson. “This new space is something different and we’ve had a great response from guests. We encourage people to take pictures and share the art on social media with the hashtags.”
This is a permanent art gallery that will mark a community partnership between the organizations. The art currently featured will be in the pavilion for a year.
The EXPO Centre will add more art collections from the Nina in 2020.
