Six fiction novels featuring couples for you to obsess over

Valentine’s Day may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still bring a little love into your life! Whether you have a partner or not, there’s always time to gush over literary couples. Here are six novels that will having you swooning in no time:

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

1. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Alex is the son of the President of the United States. Henry is a prince of England. They form a fake friendship after their distain for each other becomes an international relations issue… which becomes something more.

Don’t let the YA-styled cover fool you; if you happen to be reading this book, say, under your desk in class, be prepared to be caught blushing. The steamier scenes mixed with the fun, pop culture-filled banter will have you rooting for this couple from page one. There’s a reason this book won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance.

Persuasion by Jane Austen

2. Persuasion by Jane Austen

While Pride and Prejudice is of course a given, I thought I’d show some love to Austen’s last novel. After folding to peer pressure, Anne breaks off her engagement to (soon-to-be) Captain Wentworth. Cut to a few years later: Anne is struggling to move on, but Wentworth’s sudden arrival has old feelings bubbling to the surface.

This story is a more mature take on love, compared to Austen’s earlier works. Get ready to weep over Wentworth’s letter to Anne as the book comes to an end.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

3. The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Girl falls in love with farm boy. Farm boy is supposedly killed by pirates. Girl is then set to marry the king. Cue the return of the farm boy- now a pirate himself. Naturally, true loves prevails.

Odds are you’ve seen the movie, but the book adds an extra splash of humour. Plus, you’ll be smile every time Wesley says his classic line, “As you wish.”

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

4. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Patroclus goes to live with a king and his son, Achilles, after being exiled from his kingdom. Achilles takes Patroclus under his wing, and what begins as a friendship quickly deepens. When the Trojan War begins, Patroclus follows Achilles to battle, risking his own life for the man he loves.

If you’re a fan of Greek mythology, this novel will captivate you. Patroclus and Achilles’ love for each other is so beautiful, and will alter how you look at the classic tale.

Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery

5. Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery

After quitting her teaching position, Anne Shirley finds herself at Redmond College. It’s here that she makes new friends and risks losing old ones, as Gilbert Blythe confesses his feelings for her. With a handsome suitor trying to gain her attention as well, Anne must decide where her heart truly lies.

This is the third book in the Anne of Green Gables series, and definitely the most romantic. Fans of the Anne and Gilbert ship can celebrate the couple’s growing relationship in this book. As well, Gilbert is as dreamy as ever!

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

6. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Hazel is dying of cancer and forced to attend cancer support group. It’s here that she meets Augustus. While hesitant to start a relationship she knows she can’t finish, Hazel finds herself falling for him anyway.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t cry while reading this book. Augustus Waters stole my heart when I was eighteen and I still haven’t gotten it back.
