Those of you who know the joys of working from home might also know the joys of procrastination and the temptation of laying on the couch.
Now, as much as I enjoy a good nap, I know that I can’t procrastinate my work forever. So, I came up with 5 ways that help me stay more productive.
Make a daily to-do list
Whether it’s a simple reminder to do the laundry or a reminder for an important project, you should add them to your list. Marking down different tasks you hope to complete during the day can help keep you motivated to accomplish them.
It doesn’t matter where you write it, but instead, it’s the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel as you cross a completed task off your list.
Keep a journal
Although a to-do list is useful to keep track of what you have left to complete, a journal is good to show you things you’ve already completed. Spending a few minutes before bed writing about what you accomplished that day, will help you stay organized. You’ll be able to look back and know what you are missing without having to stress over trying to remember.
Keep your space organized
This is a simple rule to follow. It will be easier to complete a task if you aren’t surrounded by distracting things. Simply moving out of bed and organizing a small workspace will help distance you from possible distractions. Silencing your phone and leaving it on your bed will also help since you won’t feel the need to constantly glance at it.
Give yourself little breaks
There is a big difference between giving yourself a break and procrastinating. When you’re working on stressful projects it’s important to take a moment for yourself. This doesn’t mean going and watching some TV.
No, a good break is simply standing up, stretching, and walking away from your computer, to maybe grab a snack. When you return you’ll have a clearer head and might even find a mistake you missed before.
Take care of yourself
This brings me to my final and most important point. Taking care of yourself should be your number one priority. There are a few ways to help you take care of your mental and physical health.
- Getting your proper amount of sleep. You’ll be surprised how much more you can complete during the day when you wake up at a decent hour.
- Drink lots of water. This will not only help you feel more energized but will help clear up any acne you might have.
- Eating healthier. By making healthier choices in the kitchen, you won’t feel as tired and will overall feel better throughout the day.
- Working out. Even a small workout can help you feel mentally and physically stronger. The endorphins from your workout will head to your brain and will help you feel more positive and upbeat.
