Couples crafting challenge

Crafting a healthy relationship with your partner can be a challenge. Building skills and working as a team on a project can allow you to play off each other’s strengths. I have spent many fulfilling hours tinkering on crafts with my partner and it has been a fun learning experience. You might find hidden talents or new hobbies to explore together.

If you’re stuck for ideas, you could start simple, LEGO is approachable with kits for any taste. From micro kits that take minutes, all the way to large display pieces that could take several weekends to assemble.

Painting may give you another great opportunity to express your artistic side. One trip to the paint shop and you can have hours of fun. Plus if you like your results you have something to proudly display on your walls.

My partner has shared her love of leatherworking with me and made it easy. Taking something that seemed advanced and breaking it down. With just a few tools and some leather scraps, we made a hand-crafted project together in a single afternoon.

When considering trying your hand at something like leatherworking, there are several simple projects to get you started. They can also give you a cool souvenir at the end. These can be excellent couples’ projects. Making a matching pair of items such as key chains, luggage tags, or even a wallet can be a fun way to challenge one another and build a new skill.

While you can purchase a kit you can also pick up pieces as you need them. Locating free patterns and videos online will help you select the perfect project to try. A few key things you’ll need for almost any project are:

  • 1 ft or more medium veg-tan leather
  • Sharp blade for cutting
  • Cutting board
  • Wax / Leather thread
  • Leather needle
  • Leather Punch
  • Mallet (wood or composite)

Make sure to try different things and don’t give up if your first attempt isn’t perfect. I’ll leave you with a little guide for you to craft along with our simple wallet.
