The top five golf courses I played this season

Now that the golf season is over, these are my top five picks to get you thinking about next season.

5. Eaglerock Golf Course:

For golfers looking for a course with a great bang for your buck, Eaglerock does the trick. At $52 with a cart, the price is average for privately owned courses. The greens are usually very hard, with unforgiving rolls, and the fairways are harder as well.

Overall, at the price point, it’s a great place to go practice your game.

4. The Quarry:

The Quarry has the nicest scene when driving to the course, which overlooks the entire area. For average golfers, this course may be too tricky, with narrow fairways and a lot of water. The grass is well-kept, with not many deep divots on the fairways.

With not as many trees, the wind plays a factor in most of the holes. For the price of $70, it may be worthwhile for avid golfers to get a membership.

3. Victoria Golf Course

Located in the heart of the city, Victoria is one of the easiest courses Edmonton offers. The best part about the city-run course is the $30 twilight price. Victoria suffers from its accessibility, where being backed up and a slow pace of play is caused by the number of people always playing.

The back nine is more difficult than the first nine holes. If you come for the twilight price, request to play holes 10 to 18.

2. Riverside Golf Course:

The best part about Riverside is how challenging it is. The fairways have as many undulations as any in the city, forcing you to bring your best game. This makes up for the fact that water doesn’t play a factor in playing this course.

Surrounded by trees, the smell and feel of a classic golf course always makes me excited to come back. With many straight holes, the course offers a few dog legs where you may have to be selective with your shot.

For the price of $72, I believe it’s worth it for what Riverside offers.

1. Cougar Creek Golf Resort:

It’s never easy at Cougar, making it the best. There are two straightaway holes that don’t have water. Every other hole has water, dog legs, or trees in play.

Like Riverside, the course is not flat, making you uncomfortable. The fairways are well-managed, and the greens are lush. The course tests your mental ability, making your good shots more worthwhile.

Driver is not used off the tee everytime, challenging your ability to hit long with your other clubs. For the golfer looking for the ideal course with water, lots of trees and minimal wind Cougar is the place to play.

To end off a round, Cougar’s 18th hole has a tee shot from about 250 yards to the green over water. Bombs away.
