NAIT launches its Executive-in-Residence program this October with the Edmonton Elks’ president and CEO, Victor Cui, acting as the program’s appointee for the 2022-2023 school year.
“It’s humbling to be the inaugural Executive-in-Residence for the JR Shaw School of Business, where I’m hoping to help inspire the next generation of community-minded entrepreneurs,” said Cui, President and CEO of the Edmonton Elks.
The program intends to build student and staff experiences with industry leaders from a variety of industry sectors across Alberta. NAIT is aiming for students to work with business experts and gain insight into real-life business experiences, including trends and challenges.
Facts about the Executive-in-Residence program:
- The program introduces JR Shaw students to leaders in the industry,
- The Executive-in-Residence appointment is a volunteer position, and
- An Executive-in-Residence serves up to four months to a full academic year.
“As a strong business and community leader who also takes a hands-on approach, Victor will bring a wealth of practical and unique experiences that will inspire our students as they begin their own careers or launch their own entrepreneurial ventures,” said Dennis Sheppard, Dean of JR Shaw School of Business.
This year Cui plans to host keynote addresses, workshops and mentorships. During the meetings, he will share insights he’s learned throughout his career and work with the JR School of Business to increase collaboration within the business community.
“As a community-owned team, the Edmonton Elks are committed to enhancing our city and region through partnership, and this appointment is just one part of two organizations coming together for the betterment of not only themselves, but more importantly the people they serve,” said Cui.
Prior to Cui’s current role with the Elks, he co-founded One Championships, which is Asia’s largest sports media company. He also worked as the senior executive at ESPN Sports and the PGA Tour and was involved in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and the X Games.
