The annual Sweet Treat & Latte Festival is back and taking place in Old Strathcona, for the month of February. The festival highlights more than 15 local businesses, from coffee shops to pet food stores, across the business district.
“Strathcona is so great to put on this event for us; Just because it really creates so much engagement from the community,” says Kristen Whitby, Manager of The Hexagon Cafe.
This year there is also the addition of Global Pet Foods and Bone & Biscuit. These businesses each feature one special treat for your furry friends, including a pet-friendly frozen hot chocolate and a frozen yogurt sundae.
Featured business, Sid’s Selfie World, doesn’t feature an edible treat, however, it features a fake four-foot-sundae, a giant donut bench and a backdrop wall of sprinkles, that lets you take Instagram-worthy selfies for your social media.
Each business will feature one-to-two specialty items, from lattes and desserts to lemonade.
The festival shines a light on the shops participating in the event, as well as promoting to shop locally. It also allows customers to discover a new cafe they might not have known about. “We see so many more people coming out to try out the hot chocolates.”
With every purchase of a specialty item, you’ll receive a sticker to put onto a given coffee card. Once you collect at least 10 stickers, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a “Treat Yourself” prize pack, valued at more than $150.
The festival runs until February 20, 2023. Accessibility options are noted on the website, but it’s recommended to check back often, in case of changes due to construction or renovations.
