The Ooks men’s hockey team has a new boss on the bench, Scott Fellnermayr, and he’s no stranger to NAIT.
Fellnermayr played for the Ooks hockey team from 2012 to 2016. He was the team’s captain his last two seasons.
“It’s interesting; it’s been a long time since I’ve played,” said Scott Fellnermayr, head coach.
As a player, Fellnermayr won three ACAC championships. He’s now looking to share his experience in his new role as head coach.
“It’s only been five or six years, so interesting position I’m in,” said Fellnermayr.
With last year’s season cancelled due to the pandemic, Fellnermayr could only practice with his team. This season the team is back and played its first exhibition game against the Augustana Vikings. The Ooks won 6-3.
For the players, they believe Fellnermayr’s experience will strengthen their square.
“He knows like the culture and knows that we’re here to win and, I think all the guys respect that,” said Tyler Roberston, fourth-year player.
The regular season starts November 12 when the Ooks take on the Portage Voyageurs.
