A local Edmonton charity, Santa YEG, got a huge shout-out from actor Jamie Foxx this past week.
“Let me tell you what I love, Jamie loves Santa YEG,” Foxx said in the video. “Let’s get those donations going, let’s get those smiles going, let’s give back.”
Founder Jeff Tetz ran into Jamie Foxx while working out at a hotel gym in Denver, Colo. Tetz explained his charity in hopes of capturing a short video for their Twitter account. Foxx was more than happy to help the cause.
The Twitter video went viral drawing some much-wanted attention to the charity.
“We obviously had a lot greater awareness of the Twitter account and the cause itself, we had media outlets reaching out at a higher rate,” said Jeff Tetz.
Although the video helped bring more awareness to Santa YEG, they were already off to a good start this Christmas season.
“I will say prior to that we were already seeing a groundswell of support coming from various outlets from people wanting to volunteer, donate clothes and come bake cookies,” said Tetz.
Santa YEG was created to ignite the spirit of Christmas through delivering winter clothes and freshly made food to the homeless and less fortunate.
Tetz and his volunteers have partnered with State and Main and Original Joe’s to accept donations of new or gently used clothes at all their Edmonton locations. If you’re looking for ways to volunteer or want to get in touch with the organization, they can be found on all platforms of social media, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Donations can be dropped off until the end of January.
