This year marks the sixth year in a row that NAIT has been recognized as an exceptional place to work.
The annual Alberta’s Top Employers competition recognizes Alberta’s 70 best workplaces and NAIT has made the list every year since 2012. The competition judges employers on a multitude of categories including: training and skill development, employee engagement and performance and health and family benefits. Sam Nahrgang the NAIT Athletics Department Events Coordinator says, he often forgets how lucky he and his co-workers are.
I would say I take for granted that I play Saturday morning hockey every morning for free and I don’t pay for a gym membership, it gives you the feeling that, it’s a job but they care about the staff members.
This year, a large reason that NAIT was chosen was for its onsite amenities such as:
- quiet room for meditation and religious reflection
- pool
- basketball court
- hockey rink
NAIT also offers employees health and wellness spending accounts to be used on things like healthy eating, relationships and mindfulness. Nahrgang says his account allows him to relax and de-stress with activities he enjoys.
“I have used my accounts on lots of things, the list of what is allowed covers almost everything. I use mine for golf memberships every summer which for me is ideal, I have also used it for running shoes, active wear and yoga classes”
NAIT was also recognized for its focus and commitment on mental health and staff well-being in the workplace.
