A NAIT grad has landed his dream job at the racetrack. Ken Gee, graduated from the Radio and Television program in 1988, with the goal of combining his passion for horses and love of talking. 30 years later, that dream’s become a reality. Gee is the man behind the mic at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino. Â
“As a matter of fact, I’ve always been involved in horse racing in some form, my dad brought me to the track when I was four years old and became a race fan instantly. I’ve been following racing for a long time, for decades actually. I’ve had a chance to own horses, be a fan, go travel around to see races and to see my horses run,” said Ken Gee, Track Announcer.
Gee worked in the radio industry for many years, before taking a break to manage his own company. Now, he’s back behind the mic calling the races.
“It’s a dream job for me, I love it, it’s a lot of fun, it’s not like a work for me,” said Gee.
Gee’s success is not a surprise to his former colleague, Chris Durham.
“He’s been old school, and I think that’s what they wanna hear, I think they wanna hear when they’re listening somebody call a race, someone with that old school voice, and yeah, he’s in the final stretch, so to speak to his career, that’s a good choice,” said Chris Durham, Gee’s former co-worker.
You can hear Gee on the loudspeaker every Friday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
