This Christmas season think about shopping local and supporting a few Edmonton businesses. Where the owners curate their in-store collection themselves and have so much information to share about their pieces. From clothing, to skin care, to home decor to jewelry. Local business have a lot to offer shoppers this holiday season.
1. Shop Harrow
Shop Harrow is tucked away under Urban Diner’s new location on High Street. Filled with unique clothes from international designers and many local artisans you are sure to find one-of-a-kind gifts at this new local shop. With colourful decor in shades of grey, pink and gold this shop provides a complete experience. Shoppers can take in the smell of a raspberry hot cocoa candle and shop clothing, accessories, home decor and more.
The owners are kind and knowledgeable about the products and brands offered in the store. With giveaways, a Black Friday sale and the latest trends on display, Shop Harrow is a must-stop this holiday season. Several stores on 124th Street coordinate sales and events, encouraging shoppers to get familiar with all the local gems along the street.
3. Plum Home + Decor
Plum Home + Decor has a stunning historical location in the Oliver Exchange Building, which just won an Urban Design Award. Pick up a coffee at Iconoclast Coffee Roasters and pop over to Plum. Take in unique kitchenware, office accessories from Canadian brands, skin care products, Christmas decorations and locally-made chocolate.
Plum Home + Design was on 124th Street for several years before moving to the Oliver Exchange Building. They also offer interior design consultations and have a line of baby clothes.
3. So Pretty Cara Cotter
So Pretty Cara Cotter is a local jeweller nestled on 124th Street. With a new holiday collection available, So Pretty has endless sparkling options for the perfect Christmas gift to put under the tree or tuck into a stocking. Cara Cotter, the designer, attended the University of Alberta and takes inspiration for her jewels from her home in the Canadian prairies.
The picturesque pink storefront is impossible to miss and the friendly staff are kind and knowledgeable. So Pretty shares a shop space with Pura Botanicals, another local company. Pura Botanicals has a non-toxic, cruelty-free and eco-friendly skin care line and perfumery. Pura also has a holiday collection and a few gift sets for stocking stuffers.
These are only a few of the many local store options here in Edmonton. There are also several markets coming up before Christmas where local businesses set up for holiday shoppers. A new downtown Christmas market is setting up in the ATB Financial building on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for four weeks. The market opens Nov. 28.
